What is this light?
Hi guys, I have a 2002, 1500 short bed. I noticed driving to work this morning a light was on in my panel board that i had not seen before. Not sure what it is. It is right next to my battery guage, its an orange colored light, kinda square shaped. All my guages read fine and typically if something is low or wrong i get a dinging sound when i go to start it. Probably nothing major, just never noticed it and wanted to know if anyone knows what it is.

Re: What is this light?
Did you check the manual that came with the truck?
Maybe it's one of those new show truck lights... |

Bleed, i havent had a chance to check my manual. Just noticed the light today on my way to work. I will read the manual as soon as I get home. I saw some threads on here that a few guys have had the problem with their engine light staying on, thats what mine looks like. Not sure though, only had the truck a few months and never had a problem, none of those lights have ever came on and stayed. The truck makes a dinging sound if there is a problem, i already had it do that to me for low washing fluid last week, but it didnt do anything this morning, i'll see if i can figure it out.

Ok, I figured it out. It is my Malfunction Indicator Light. Manual says if the light comes on and stays on, it needs service immediately. Great. Truck has been well taken care of and has 12,000 miles on it.

Re: What is this light?
Sorry to hear it. I'll never buy a new Dodge, I've heard so many bad things about them.

Well, I have an idea now what the problem is. Went out last night and messed around with it and got a code of p0442, which means some type of a medium leak in the evaporative system. Im guessing it's going to turn out to be a bad gas cap, i have it turned 3 clicks but it still feels loose to me. Anyways, will know for sure in about a half hour, im off to the dealership now.

I had a Pontiac Montana that had the same problem with the gas cap. I had that stupid thing replaced 4 different times, and the check engine light still came on. It would go for awhile without it, but then sooner or later it would come back on, and always the gas cap. I wish you better luck, heaven forbid something actually be wrong other than the gas cap and you not know because of a crappy design.
