'01 cam idler bearing failure, how to remove?
the bearing for the intermediate idler (lack of a better term) froze up on my wifes car yesterday. Removal of the timing belt cover and etc was easy thanks to info off of this forum but I can't find any info on how to remove this "intermediate", or "idler shaft". It is the piece that the timing belt gear bolts to. It goes inside the head and drives the twin camshafts. The front bearing is visibly destroyed. I removed the (3) 6mm bolts that appear to hold it on from the front but this sucker will not budge and I don't want to destroy anything in case I'm missing something.
I have 2 questions.... 1), has this happened to anyone else? Car has just over 100,000 miles and car and engine are (were) in excellent shape. 2), can someone guide me to how to remove this part? Thanks for any help. Jeff. |
