4WD Wont Disengage

Well its that winter season now and i just used my 4wd because we had our first snow of the season here in md and of course the roads turned to ice. So i pull out my neighborhood and get to the main road where i wont need 4wd. I flip the button to dissengage and the 4wd and i drive about 4 to 5 miles and the damn thing just keeps blinking..Ive checked Iz FAQ searched the forum but havent found anything to do with not disengaging. Any ideas?

Thanks Danny

Re: 4WD Wont Disengage

What vehicle?

If a Rodeo you could first check for vacuum leaks around the vacuum tank and hoses (near the oil filter).

Re: 4WD Wont Disengage

Never heard of one not comming out ouf 4wd before. Could be the actuator is stuck, could be the 2wd vacuum hose came off, or could be a bad vss switch. To get it back into 2wd for now you could try putting it in 4wd then swap the hoses on the front actuator. That should pull it back to 2wd position. Once its moved, remove the hoses, put it in 2wd, the reconnect the hoses to the right spots. Here is a pic of the front actuator with the hoses marked..

Check THIS POST for tips on troubleshooting the system.

Re: 4WD Wont Disengage

my 01 passport did the same thing the first couple of times i used it. It would flash rapidly after taking it out of 4wd. I just stopped and backed up and it disengaged. It did it a couple of more times but has stopped now. I have heard you should put it in 4wd a few times a month to keep the actuator working properly.
