rear quarter panel replacement question
My parents have a '95 SL2 that was hit strictly in the passanger side rear quarter panel, punching a hole in it and putting some nice cracks in it. It was a low milage hit, in fact my dad hit it with his Isuzu.
Heres the question: We bought a new panel off eBay that will swap perfectly, but around the back window is there any sealing that needs to be done? A guy at a parts store told me as long as it's sealed to the window it's no problem, just pull the old one off and put the new one on. Does anyone know if it needs to be sealed? I've never done panel replacement, never worked with fiberglass to begin with, and don't want to pay a body shop 200 bucks to do a 15 minute job. Thanx! |

Re: rear quarter panel replacement question
when i put a rear quarter panel on my '95 sl1 no sealant was needed. And a matter of fact i got the parts from a sl2 and that one didnt have any sealant come off or anything. so there is no sealing needed unless for some reason you removed some sealant.

It's not sealed to the window. It's just a matter of finding ALL the fasteners, some are hidden pretty good.

Re: rear quarter panel replacement question
Thanks guys, I havn't gotten to fixing it yet because i havn't gotten online lately due to a computer problem. It's an actual factory panel off a different car, so i guess it's the abs plastic.
Thanks alot again! |
