My first kit was a Tamiya S13 Silvia. I wanted to make a replica of the Silvia I had at the time. I stumbled across this forum then read the FAQ. I started my model not long after and it turned out ok considering it was my first attemp. My only problem was that I kept polishing the paint back to the primer because I didnt add clear coat and it was metallic paint.

Tamiya RX7 - didn't know anything about paint, primer, sanding, polishing...er...didn't know a thing really. Needless to say the car is no longer in public view.

My kit was embarrassing, back when I was still in elementary school, I decided to ask for a William F1 (the blue yellow white CANON one) for my bday. Opened the kit and found out that.... I NEED GLUE?!?!?!?!!? You know... all those Bendai Gundam models I made never had to use glue... so yea, I used regular paper glue, and for the stickers... THEY DONT STICK!!!!!!!, I mean.... I can't even peel off the stickers off that blue paper! So I basically cut out the whole decal along with the blue BG paper and glue the "sticker" on the car....

And whenever I pick the car up something fell apart.

That's my first experience.

a 66 malibu street machine, it turned out ok seen as it was molded in black so it looked alright without painting a single thing. currently, the right exhaust manifold is gone, the left one glued to the wrong spot on the engine, the front suspension is pulled off of the engine bay when I tried to get one of the front wheels to come unstuck(glue came out of the retainer), the rear suspension is only held together because of it's superior fitment(for it's time, one touch and It'd fall apart). not as bad as my 68 stang, body and underside painted silver, and that's it. molded in white :o and a rushed job. ohhhh, the shame........I'll try for some "money shots" of those two

Talking

Hmmm Lancia Stratos from tamiya

Don't kow anything about primer, specific glue, etc. I use hardware glue you know the one with the strong smell and yellow color.

Well it got yellow line everywhere...hmm the good old crazy days and of course paint it with marker and I did one big mistake also stripping the marker marks with thinner.....

First car kit was a Dodge Viper GTS from AMT/ERTL. OK for a beginner, but crap also. Did stuff like not use primer, and just sprayed on the top coat. Also attached windows with liquid cement that fogged, etc, etc. I've still got it, but never got around to taking pictures of it. Will do so if I remember.

..Yes my very first kit i ever built when i was around 10yrs old.
Built all kinds of stuff for around 5-6 years before taking nearly 10 years off from building.
The 2 DTM's i posted was when i got keen again and took the hobby back up.

My first plastic kit was a Heller Subaru. Like many others I didn't know a thing about primering, sanding and such. Glopped the paint on with a brush, used liberal amounts of glue etc.

I was so proud of my handiwork but now I realize it's a heap of crooked plastic junk. Better hide the dang thing...

Thumbs down first Kit

The First one was a crapy AMT "Hot Streak"... something like that. A kind of 1980 Omni Charger. No paint, lot of glue but no photo and destroyed. The second one was a Tamiya Lamborghini Contact... a beauty... destroyed in the same way than the AMT... movers company !

A bit disturbed by all lost in this moving... I took a 3 years break of modeling than bought me a Monogram Lamborghini Contact cuz I just can't find the Tamiya anymore... this one I still own it. Windows are black cuz I put too much Tamiya Smoke on it, body reiceive a lot of clear causing bubbles and tears drop but I had a airbrush... I was 12 or so and the world was mine. So I consider this one to be the start of the modeling era... last a couple of years then extinguished itself... I had a real car now... no more time for the little stuff.

I'm back in modeling now... it's been 2 years since this wave... I hope it'll hold on cuz modeling is so much fun.
