Unhappy 2000 Alero keeps dying on me

My Alero has been starting fine, then today it dies in the parking lot at work and when I started it back it dies in two seconds...someone says it's the security system and something about the key not being recognized by the car's system....and the gauge cluster has quit, no tach, no temp, no nothing but idiot lights, what gives? Can I bypass this system or co I have to pay GM thousands to fix it?

Re: 2000 Alero keeps dying on me

I have heard someone putting the key on for at least 15 minutes and the security light should turn OFF, and then they are able to start the vehicle normally without the engine dying.
