Probably a Fuel issue...

hi all..just picked up a 90 metro with the wonderful 3cyl...since i got it thursday, it doesnt want to idle when i come to a stop...whether coming off the freeway or around the surface streets...gonna put new plugs, wires, cap and rotor...but wondering if anybody ever had anything else that solved this problem.

Second...was on my way to go out 2nite and the check engine light came on (11pm & raining so i havent gotten on the ground to get the codes yet). the engine didnt die, but i lost power...if tried to accelerate it would sorta bog and slow down even more...if i slowly raised my foot to where i was bearly giving throttle (and had the clutch in) it would rev the engine up...but as soon as i put it in gear it would bog again. i was able to do this enough to get it off the freeway and into a parking lot...opened the hood and looked for something obvious as i know nothing about these windups...but didnt see anything..so i got back in the car and decided i would try to make it home...well the thing started up and i put it in gear and it ran like normal...for about 500 feet then started again...so i thought to myself, ok...its flooding the engine...lets see what happens when i open the throttle all the way and sure enough in second gear it stumbled a bit but then i took off like a bat outta hell (well..maybe a sparrow out of a burning tree)...but was enough for me to drive home normally.

my question is this...with these cars, does a WOT bypass all the sensors? or am i correct in guessing that my code is going to be for a bad o2 sensor?

gonna check back before i crawl my 6', 240# butt up underneath the dash to check the codes 2morrow.

Thanks
Andy in AZ
