Rx-8 Vs Evo 8 Mr

LOL, that's all I have to say. It wasnt a stock evo either, he had a full turbo back exhaust done, it sounded beautiful. I lost by 4 or more cars from a 70mph roll to 110. I had our friend brandon in the car, the evo is his dream car. I wanted to run just for the hell of it and the guy bit. The only thing that sucked was the guy didnt look like he was having fun, I know I was. Anyways that was funny!

Good times man, it's fun to get destroyed once in a while...it's more fun when the other side is cool about it though.

4 cars from 70 mph -110 in a modded EVO VIII MR, he must have been a shitty driver. Just goes to show just because a car is faster doesn't mean they will always win. You were clearly the better driver in this case, but the difference in cars was too great to be made up by some driver error.

Nope, you read my post wrong. I said I thought a modded EVO VIII MR should win by more than 4 lengths in 70-110 mph pull. And even though he won, it was not by as much as I suspected he would win by which goes to show that he was not the best driver, and therefore not driving his car to the full potential even though he did in fact beat you just because it is a car that is fast enough to be able to win agianst you even with some driver error. So in turn, from the story it sounded like you were the better driver, but you still lost just because of the sheer speed of the modded EVO.

thanks for the clarity, but just for reference, I was in 3rd and I believe at 70 he was in 4th. But im basing this off of my friend who has an STI and that they have similar gearing, I could be wrong though. But that thing moved, be beat me by 4+ cars, i stopped at 110 cause it was like no way i'm catching up.

Anyone with an evo care to clarify me if im wrong about the gearing/back me up if im right?

Re: Rx-8 Vs Evo 8 Mr

The EVO MR is a 6 speed (unlike the regular EVO), but the gearing is tighter on the 04-06 STI. On 07 STI the spaced the gearing a little more, so I imagine the 07 STI is similar to the MR.

Re: Rx-8 Vs Evo 8 Mr

My 05 STI in 4th gear at 70 MPH would be at about 4500 RPM, perfect for hitting it hard (want to be at or slightly above 4000 so the turbo will spool fast). The EVO at 70 would be a little low in 4th, or a little high in 3rd. If he took off slowly at first and then gained speed quickly as the turbo spooled, he would have been in 4th.

I'm going to say he was probably was in 5th at 70mph judging by the results. When comparing the 5 speed and 6 speed it's more or less a wash from 1st through 4th gear. For simplicity's sake, think of 5th gear on the 5 speed as being replaced by 5th and 6th on the 6 speed. On my '05 VIII RS I'm doing about 3k RPM's at 70mph when in 5th. Any tuned Evo will make plenty of useable power at that RPM although peak torque is typically closer to 3.5k RPM's. Having spent some pretty decent time behind the wheel of an '04 RX-8, I'm guessing you ran up against a 5th gear pull in a tuned IX running a 3" TBE and an MBC. That's a solid mid 12 second car with 110mph traps FWIW. No shame in that.

thanks for the clarity, but a little correction, it was an VIII MR not IX

Re: Rx-8 Vs Evo 8 Mr

If it was an VIII he may have had aftermarket cams then as well.

I doubt he had cams, why would you think that?

Re: Rx-8 Vs Evo 8 Mr

EVO VIII didn't have Mivec so cams were a common modification.

When I was still on the stock snail and running cams on 91 octane that was more or less how I would pull on an RX-8.
