01 Trooper with 1340 code and a P0502.

Thanks for the great forum, by far the best out here. I just bought a 01 Trooper 2wd. 110k miles. I bought it with a bad tranny (4l30) The guy rebuilt it but it only shifts manually. All sensors were changed (twice). Any chance it could be a VSS (with the p0502 code) or the transmission control unit under the center console? What about a bad ground? Thats all thats left. I'm really at the end of my rope with that problem as I have had 3 shops including the local isuzu "dealer" trying to sort it out.

My second and now bigger problem is the Trooper stopped running well. Will barely start. Dies if you try to give it gas, runs rich w/ black smoke, sounds horrible. Only code is a 1340. But I have had that code off and on since day one. Does anyone know where I can start with this one? Bad grounds, Camshaft Positioning sensor, MAP? Thanks in advance for any assistance.
