Engine not heating up?
My LeBaron's engine is not holding heat. It heats up but as soon as I turn on my heater the engine temp plummits. Also the temp usually doesn't get to normal. The only thing I can figure is this:
Last weekend my alternator belt snapped and the engine overheated. I was driving home and didn't notice something was wrong until the heater was blowing cold air and when I looked at my temp guage it was almost to the top. So I pulled over and found the belt shredded up. I let it cool down and then drove the rest of the way home. I was just recently able to get the belt back in. All I can figure is that the thermostat is stuck open and just keeps letting water and coolant in. Does anyone have any other theorys on what may be causing it to not heat up? |

The first thing I would suspect and replace just for the heck of it is the thermostat.
They're cheap, and shouldn't be over $10 anyway. |

I had the same problem with my Thunderbird (engine didn't warm up) just before the head gasket let go. (I think you responded to my posts) And now, the loaner '93 Talon TSi AWD I'm driving is doing much the same thing. WTF? I don't drive that hard.
Anyhow, replacing the thermostat is a good place to start. I hope that's all you have to do. Good luck!

Yep, took of the thermostat last night and it had failed open because of the overheat. Changed the thermostat and everything is back to normal now.
Thanks for the input guys. |

:sun: Hay every one, if you motors don't heat up with a new thermostat you might try runing a higher temp thermostat, so that the coolant must get hotter to get it's flow, this is a good idea if you live in a cold area BUT BE CAREFUL putting a thermostat in that the temp rating is to high on will couse the motor to over heat check with your radiator shop to get a idea where to start from.
