Tail fins cause blind spots?

In late 1950s and early 1960s, some cars had tail fins. 1959 Cadillac had the tallest tail fins. Do tail fins cause blind spots? While watching "Fortune Cookie" movie, a man and a woman were talking in 1959 Cadillac. I think that the camera was on the hood pointing at the people and the tail fins. The tail fins look too high.

Re: Tail fins cause blind spots?

Good question. I have driven cars from that era and don’t recall having that problem. You had to use your mirrors, many were larger back then and were placed more forward on the fenders giving a better view if the side of the vehicles also they were larger. I don’t recall them being heated back then.

Re: Tail fins cause blind spots?

Side view mirrors were optional on cars before mid-1960s so if the car don't have side view mirrors, those big fins could cause blind spots.

Perhaps not this...

... far forward, but this is where I've lately believed that side view mirrors belong - on the fenders.
There is no need to turn your head to see in them, vs. with present door-mounted side-views.

If you can see your car's tail fins, or any other part of your car in your side-view mirrors while driving, they are set incorrectly.

Yep, I remember. And I never really liked those tail fins.

Yeah, and they actually look pretty good. I like them.
