Yikes...DEH-7100 HeadUnit dead?
Hi all..
I was driving in this morning listening to the radio at a low level...and suddenly I heard a crackle thru the speakers and the radio died. Shutdown, some lights on the radio were on. I pulled off the face and restarted. Came back on.. all radio station memory lost...tried to tune in.found station..all ok...tried to change the equalizer profile...no response... I pulled off the face again.....restarted...nothing...some lights on the unit (are these diagnosis lights prehaps?) My config is: DEH-7100 (about 2 year old) Pioneer 4-channel AMP with channel-B bridged Front mids off Amp, rears off Headunit Any ideas? Thanks in advance, James.

sounds like either you have a wire loose or dirty contacts on your face. To clean the contacts, take the face off and use a pencil eraser to clean the copper contacts on the face AND the box still left in the dash. Make sure you clean off all the eraser dust.

Hi PaulD,
Thanks for your reply. I further notice that it mainly happens when I have the radio on rather than CD. Also, when the unit hangs, I can actually remove the Face and the unit will still continue to play and audio will still be heard. I can even take the key OUT OF THE IGNITION and the unit will stay ON !!! It sounds to me like some internal electrical (like the power distribution board) component in the unit may be faulty and leaking current...i.e. BATTERY - - - - -IGNITION | - - - - - - - - - - | | - - - - - - - - - - | \ - - - - - - - - - - / <-- either a short between external wires ------| - - - |------ ------- ======== ------- | \+X+/ | <--- or a short between internal power circuit ------- | | ------- | | ------- | UNIT | ------- ======== I dont know.....then again could it be the firmware on the Unit or something? boggled TIA for any suggestions... James.

that sure sounds like an internal problem ..... might be time to take it into the shop (as much as I hate doing that)
