Question '95 overhead console: orphaned cables

(I'm re-posting there as a new thread as I made some progress, and to be in-line with the forum rules. The original thread was here: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=945853)
I'm almost done overhauling my car ('94 TS) interior -including an overhead console transplant-, but I'm missing some information that Sportedge (or someone who has already done this) would know.

* The '94 is not wired for the console, but the service manual mentions an overhead console as an option for the Silhouette. However, it doesn't show any connection to the lighting/dimming circuit. The '95 has two cables (gray and brown), but from the scan of the SM posted before I can't read exactly where they go. Can anyone with the '95 service manual check this?

* The connection to the car speed signal (green cable) is used to enable the temperature update (according to the SM it won't update until the car reaches 18 MPH or so). Is there any easily-accessible location where I can tap into this signal?

* How on earth do you get the cables for the sensor through the firewall? Are you supposed to drill a new hole? -> Solved! Pulled the cables through the round grommet above the brake booster. Used a piece of steel wire as a "needle" (a blunt one, that is!)

As a side note: when I was looking for the ground underneath the carpet for the compass/thermometer, I tapped into the black/white cable running there (don't know exactly which one is it, but on the original car the ground went there), and measured the volts between that point and exposed metal in the body. For a good ground it should read 0 V, but sure enough it wasn't. Is this the infamous ground post that screws up the car's electronics?

Re: '95 overhead console: orphaned cables

The 95 service manual shows the wires for Pont/Olds as part of the overhead dome light harness, going thru connecter C301 ( 8 cavities) located on the LH "B" pillar( just behind drivers door I believe). All 6 wires needed for the overhead console go thru this connector.
Prior to that, all the wires pass thru connector C200, (60 cavities), the Instrument Panel Harness to Body harness, near base of LH "A" pillar, LH of parking brake
