Two V8 beasts, one road, no mercy.

you guys all know im not a fan of the ford mus-stank, the body style, the low factory numbers, the over hype! its rubbish.

But once in a while you run into a guy whos a true muscle-car guy and a car that is just a pleasure to behold.

Im driving home with my wife, my son and my best freind in the car, we had gone out to do the grocery shopping for my son's first birthday. half way home I spot a black Mustang GT, 98-99 model with a nice tone to it. Im thinking this guy is gonna want to play. so I go by him in a low enough gear as to gun it if need be but he was reaction-less.
He lets me go for a few blocks and then speeds up and starts to pace me. with no traffic lights in sight we have to resolve to a rolling start. I rev at him as I shift to an even lower gear (2nd.) he revs back and shift down as well. he honks it and we take off. the noise was amazing. Both cars pitched thier noses up, tires ripping into a low screeth as we shifted to 3rd. Rears squat down and the sound of pure muscle thunder lit up the night. Both cars where neck and neck all the way through 3rd. he shifted to 4th and didnt loose an inch. Im thinking "fuck I gotta shift, that guy is good though he shifted and didnt fall back at all, shit I wonder if I can shift that fast too."
So I do it and also manage not to fall back at all. still neck and neck and reaching about 115mph. the climb through 4th gear seemed like it went on forever. niether he nor I gaining an inch, both cars climbed nose to nose side by side. I remember looking over at him and making eye contect somewhere aroun 110 mph and 5000 rpms and he had the same exact look on his face as I did.
it was a " DUDE WHY ARENT YOU LOOSING????" look.
I could tell he was used to winning these night fights but so am I. well over our trap speeds and already in 5th gear he shut down, i followed suit. from 30 to 130something mph neither gained an inch.

we pulled up to a light and all i could tell him was "dude that was awsome"
he replied with " i know that was amazing".

Good race Musashi. Now when you say it was a 98-99, which was it. Because in 99 the body style change completely along with stock HP ,etc.

Careful, dude. jeepglclwj flamed the hell out of me when I wrote about inadvertantly only getting up to 90 passing a Camry when my kid was in my car.

Nice race! you should find out what that sucker had under the hood. And yes, if you just read the ending it sounds like a dialogue from Brokeback Mountain.

can you tell im not mustang-litterate? I thought the model changed from 97 to 98. my bad, it was the 99 body style. as far as mods it had a cam and not even a subtle one, it wassnt supercharged though.

id be a liar and a hypocrite if i said i wouldnt race with my kid in the car. now with that said everyone knows im a precautious driver. I never race in confined roads, never on srteets i dont frequent. i like to know what surface conditions are like and i like wide streets with at leat 3 lanes and pleanty of side farm in case i loose it i have some time to recover. my car is a tank too so seriously my son is as safe at at 120mph as any other kid is at 60 in aone of these pos gas savers people are buying now.

and I eat the loser's soul.

I think it would have to have more than just a cam to roll with you. And to do that without boost is pretty awesome on a stang. Give the guy props for sure.

Re: Two V8 beasts, one road, no mercy.

Killer race man...nicely written too.

Mustang had to have a fair amount done to it. As stated internals or boost to keep up with you. IF he was F/I Im sure you would have heard a blower whine for a roots style or the hiss of air if it was procharged or turbo. If you heard none of these then I would bet he was a fully built motor which is still an impressive race on your part. Congrats!

Re: Two V8 beasts, one road, no mercy.

Yeah believe me, I know how much it costs to make a 4.6 PI motor fast and stay NA. Thats not a cheap build. Sounds like an awesome race, he must have had quite a bit of work done. When I had my 2000 GT, I raced my friends 05 GTO, and lets just say it was not much of a race. Congrats to him for not loosing to such a beast, and congrats to you for, well.... not loosing to such a beast.
