new squeak..
first of all.. yes i have searched through the forums but havent found a problem like mine.I have a squeaking belt somewhere in the car.. the thing is it only squeaks when i am at a complete stop, if i am revving at all there is no noise?! anyone have any idea which belt this is and what i can do to fix it.. My Mitsubishi dealership wants $90 to tighten the belts and $190 to replace all the belts.

Re: new squeak..
with the car running open your hood and listen for where the squeking is coming from. then turn off the car and tighten that belt up a little bit.

I showed it to my dad who knows a little about cars and he said it is most likely a bearing going out in either the alternator or the water pump. that would be a serious pain in the ass the replace the water pump. also, i went to drive to my buddies tonight and it didnt make any noise at all?!

Re: new squeak..
A worn or blown bearing is unlikely to make a squeak; more likely a whine. In addition, a bearing would be louder or at least as loud when revving the engine when it is under load. Improperly tensioned or stretched belts usually grap traction shortly after being put under load, especially when wet. Try playing with the adjuster bolts on the pulley mounting brackets, or have your belts replaced and re-tensioned altogether.
