Re: old porsche 356
I used that paint:
it's a french paint from hypermarket... not so good to make real chrome paint but quite nice for metalic parts. BTW, the engine is also painted with that paint, but as I put my fingers on it several times, it becames a little less shiny. Anyway, all parts will have some weathering in time. I find some english licences plates here, on a Mercedes 560 SEC revell kit... I will use it for my porsche, and also will use the "GB" enblem. I put the engine in place and test fitted the trunk, seems to be a small problem, I will check later because I'm not sure the correct place of engine without all parts... Front direction and suspension is now in place... thanks. Bye |

Re: old porsche 356
Looks good but the silver on the engine and trans is way too shiny, you need to tone it down significantly. Keep up the good work!

Re: old porsche 356
I'm a little late for the party and really liking this. It's about time a Porsche got the rust treatment, especially using the excellent 356 kit.
It looks like the rust technique you were using involves one of those using real iron pigment paint. The one I'm familiar with is Sophisticated Finishes. If I'm wrong, just ignore me. This works best if the body is placed in a plastic bag after applying the top coat that causes the rusting. I get very little reaction when I leave it out in the aid to dry. What you were experiencing looked similar. |

2 bottles , one in silver plate base coat and one called "instant rust antiquing solution". I used the same technics as you described, put some silver base coat on the kit, then I wait it dry and put some instant rust liquid on the parts... Then I put the pieces in a plastic bag (but I don't know if you have to wrap the pieces in bag or if you have to just put pieces in a bag and let some air inside the bag) What I did is to wrap the pieces in bag and closed it. but it didn't work, I don't know why...I'll try again later but I'm not sure can get some results... here are some few pics for update... Almost finished, still quite lot of work on the motor and small work on inside (but I have not the pieces in my new house for the moment... so I think this WIP will be more slowly in the near future... For reference, this is an exhaust done this way that came out as I wanted it. The bumps were also the result of the reaction as was the color variance. I can see subtle rust on your Porsche which comes off as nice weathering. |

Re: old porsche 356
thanks for your comment, I'd tried again on another piece of plastic, but absolutely no results again... I really don't know why...
I will try again a third time on another piece of plastic, if really no results, I will give up this method and try to make it the old fashion way (with paints)... Bye |

Re: old porsche 356
hi everybody...quite some good progress tonight...
I get the missing pieces of my porsche 356, I can now continue my WIP...in the same time I lost some pieces for the engine So I tried to reproduce it the best I can... adjustement...and engine weathering and modified exhaust... here are the pieces I forgot in my old appartment, so now I can go on interior detailing... from left side driving ... to right side driving... still some few glue to get it right I finally give up the special paint for rust and did it myself, with enamel paint and cristal sugar to get a small rust effect... a closer picture...color seems a little bit to brown for me, but the cristal sugar make it quite nice! Interior detailing... I added some few details... |

Looks terrific! The weathering turned out very authentic looking! I like this one a lot!
