Passenger side window issue

On my 04 ls the passenger window will not work right. When you roll it all the way up it comes back down, I had googled it and it says its a calibration issue. I tried the recal and it still does the same thing(the recalibration method I found was for an older ls). Can someone give me the calibration method for a 2004 Lincoln LS.

Re: Passenger side window issue

Does the window come back down under power (basically reverses direction) or is it more like it falls down?

Re: Passenger side window issue

Rod, it reverses direction and goes almost all the way down. By the way, it doesn't go all the way down no matter what. Is there a way to adjust it?

Re: Passenger side window issue

You can start with the Initialization Procedure. Pasted below is the procedure from the 2004 Factory Service Manual:

Door Window Motor Initialization

CAUTION: Make sure no obstructions are present in the window system when carrying out this procedure.
NOTE: A battery disconnect does not require this procedure to be carried out.

NOTE: Excessive bounce-back (bounce-back that occurs with no obstructions present) may indicate a non-initialized window motor.

NOTE: The front window motors must be initialized whenever: the motor is removed from the window regulator, a new motor is installed, a new window regulator is installed, a new window glass is installed, a glass top run removal and installation and when carrying out any operation in which grease or lubricants are applied to the window system. A new front window motor is in a proportional up/down mode until initialized.

NOTE: All front window components (window glass, window regulator, window motor and glass top run) must be installed and tightened to specification before carrying out this procedure.

NOTE: If this procedure is only partially completed, the front window motor remains non-initialized and only the proportional up/down functions will operate. A non-initialized window motor may allow one-touch down operation, but does NOT allow one-touch up operation.

  1. Press and hold the window control switch in the UP position at the second detent until the window glass stalls into the glass top run. Once the top run is reached, hold the window control switch in the UP position at the second detent for an additional 2 seconds.
  2. Test for correct window operation by performing the one-touch down and the one-touch up features.

Re: Passenger side window issue

Rod, I tried, but everytime the window makes it to the top, it goes right back down.

Re: Passenger side window issue

Your next step them is probably to remove the door panel and door liner, then inspect the window regulator to see if you can visibly find anything damaged or binding. Maybe have someone operate the button for the window while you attempt to "help" pull the window up.

Re: Passenger side window issue

If the regulator was replaced in the past and the window never worked correctly after that, then it's possible that the smart motor needs to be reindexed to the regulator.
