Le Mans Contest Entry - Porsche 917 Gulf #20

I know, it's not the most original choice ever, but I have a few good reasons to pick this subject.

First of all I watched my "Le Mans" movie on DVD (again) today and it suddenly struck me that the only worthy opponent for my #5 Ferrari 512S could be a Porsche 917K. Not just in the movie, but as a contest model as well. So I'm putting my 2 "curbside" models against each other in this modeling contest...

Whether it is Michael Delaney or Jo Siffert driving the car doesn't really matter, the thing is that I happen to have the Fujimi kit and the Studio 27 Upgrade parts, and I felt like building it. So be it.

I didn't do a lot yet, just test fitting the main body parts and as you can see the light blue the parts are molded in couldn't be further away from the real powder blue as they are. I'll have to find out the exact mixture to come as close as possible to the original color. That seems to be my first concern. More to follow, with pictures of course

Somebody said we'd get a bunch of 917s in the contest. That's a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Will be keenly following your progress Sennake. Can you get that nose panel to sit flush? Fujimi seems to have a problem with those, their GT40 is not the best in the same area.

Phil,
I believe that somebody was....uhm...err..ME! LOL!

Here's my next prediction. Studio 27 will run out of the 917 PE sets before the month is out...

Guy, good choice! Looks like we're all going to learn the pitfalls of the Fujimi and how to build these things!!!

I forgot to mention the MAIN reason to build this car : I was at Goodwood this year, where I took about 1000 reference pictures of the Gulf 917 of Vic Elford, and on top of that I met "the man" in person! I can't image a better reason to build this model.

I'm glad to see Vic really does have his head on his shoulders. (some of you will know what I am referring to)

Sennake,

Man I am looking forward to seeing this buildup
By chance are you making your reference images available ? I'd gladly pay the cost of shipping a CD. Please let me know when you get a moment.
