1994 325i auto tranny problem...Help!
Just purchased a 1994 325i with auto transmission and 122k miles. Car had been parked for several months due to bad transmission (or so we were told). Engine fired right up. We bought it and had transmission rebuilt. The problem now is more common in reverse then drive but when it goes into reverse it dies. Have to keep left foot on brake and accelerate with the right foot (sometimes to the floor) and slowly release foot from brake..if done just right then the sputtering smoothes out and starts to reverse. Husband says that has also died on him while comming to or at a stop when idleing down. Someone has told us that it sounds like some sort of hydraulic pressure switch or sensor?!? Does this sound like a tranny or idle issue? Since we could not drive the car prior to purchase we are not sure. Any ideas? First BMW and clueless.

Re: 1994 325i auto tranny problem...Help!
when I first got my BMW it to would stall out at red lights... I found out that someone had put Platum sparkplugs in it.. BMW will not run with this plug.. I'm not sure if this will help but it is something to check

Thank you for the suggestion. We have not changed the plugs but I will make sure that the previous owner did not use them. The more I think about it and more I read here ... I am more convinced that the problem is not transmission related unless it is incidental because of tranny work done. That is really the only issue we have...even with rebuiding the transmission we only have about $3300 in the car and it is MINT! As much as we love it I am starting to think that I could get a 100% return on my investment, which has renewed the appeal of my 94 Bonneville that was about to be history. Any suggestions on best resources when trying to find a new home for a well deserving 325i?

when u say platinum plugs, do you mean Bosch Platinum +2 or +4's?
i changed my plugs to these and the car has run perfectly. i once heard that these plugs hids problems, but i am not sure how they can do that. if someone knows the facts about that, i would like to know . . .
