Both engines done right are equally reliable. As far a gross power normally aspirated, the 350 has more potential.

When I was in school 50 years ago.
Some said Chev and some said ford depending on what there parents drove.
For most Chev people Chev does better and ford people most ford does better.

But watch out for the older built 302 ford engines .
The 350 hd duty engines do real good
I Have saw 250 to 350 K miles on them.
Good oil and filters and oil changes will make either one do good.

Re: chevy 350 vs. ford 302

In the larger scheme of things, the 302 and 350 are very similar in terms of dimensions, weight, performance potential, driving characteristics, reliability, cost etc.

Overall, though, the 302 has a slight edge where light weight and compact dimensions are prized. They work particularly well in lightweight cars that can take full advantage of their quick-revving potential that stems from their big 4-inch bore and short 3-inch stroke. For everything else, the 350 has a slight edge.

the ford 302 cu engine is by itself with many designs over the many years of use. good fit for the mustang. many power options.

the 350cu GM engine also has many power options and designs and has been a proven long lasting power plant.

not a good fit in small vehicles. good truck//boat engine.
