This seems like the "First Car" forum
hi guys, its time for me to make that leap in my life and buy a car. Ive been driving my dads oldish infiniti for the last two years gettin a free ride, but now its my sisters turn to drive it. Now i need a car of my very own.
My major limiting factor is price, i dont have a job (trying to chang that right now) so i only have a few bucks saved up. Im looking for something cheap to buy/insure/maintain, etc... but still be kind of cool. lots of my friends drive hondas and stuff but im not sure if thats what i want. i have a speeding ticket on my record too (78 in a 65). i want something cool, is what it pretty much boils down to. i dont want to be ashamed to roll into the parking lot, i dont want people to laugh at me as i drive by. What other options are there other than the typical hondas? something cheap first and foremost, but with a little bit of dignity. thanks guys! |

There is no all in one package car. You can't have a fast, cool, cheap, cheap to insure, good gas mileage car. There are going to be trade offs. Get something boring, you don't have a job so a performance car of any kind really is only going to cost you.

Well since you have no money, are your parents helping to buy the car? i woul like a Max price, but with what you've given me, i would say that a toyota camry/corolla seems to be your best bet. (not exactly "Cool", but nothin to be ashamed of.)

toyota celica
nissan 240sx ford probe chevy cavalier older dodge neon mazda mx-6 none of these cars are very fast, but they should be relativley cheap to find, fun to drive and get good gas mileage. and most of em arent too shabby looking either. of course there are also plenty of great hondas i could add in but you said no hondas.

Chevrolet Beretta GTZ/Z26
1995-2004 Cavalier Z24 Dodge Neon R/T or ACR Subaru Impreza Outback (all it needs is a turbo, intercooler and beefed up exhaust) Acura Integra 4 door early 1990s Nissan Sentra Mazda Millenia S Mitsubishi Galant mid 1990s Nissan Maxima And the list goes on. In fact a good thing to do is hit up the forums here on the cars you like and see what users who are most likely owners are posting about it.

An N/a FC3S from 1988 aka old school Mazda Rx7 should be good. They're quick pretty fun an not expensive to maintain, ensure or buy. Or you could go with a celica or nissan 240SX.

Re: This seems like the "First Car" forum
Check out the 94-01 Saab 900/9-3. You can get a decent one for around $4k. They're comfortable, reliable (stay away from the V6..timing belt needs to get changed every 30k miles, the Sensonic tranny likes to explode), easy on gas, the interior is more upmarket then what your paying for, and I eat Hondas for breakfast everyday on the way to school...stock.
