Where is the OBD1 located at?
I just bought this 1982 ford E series Econoline van. 5.0L V8 2BBL , automatic, PS . She runs great but is in need of a major tuneup. Mileage is in the toilet. There are two major questions,.
Question 1, I looked online and it looks like this van has OBD1. Where is the hook up to attach a code reader or key to? We have looked every where under the dash and do not see it. question 2. Have isolated the brake light, back up light, parking light etc problem to the hazard switch in the steering column,. this is not a cheap part, is there any other thing it could be before we tear into that? Thanks |

Re: Where is the OBD1 located at?
there may not be a connector,on the older fords 83,84 - mid 90's they have
a wire connector (2) L/side of engine in rear, 6 pin & 1 pin.use a wire to jump connectors then you can read the flash codes w/key off jump connectors, then turn key to on/engine off,the ses lamp will flash codes good luck

HERES A PICTURE USING A JUMPER WIRE OR TEST LIGHT
OBD1 Codes Retrieval (Pre-1995 Cars and Trucks) Ford 1985-95 OBD1 code self-retrieval When checking engine service light on Ford vehicles made before 1995, you can get the code yourself using a $5 tool called "test light". All you need is to hook it up to the vehicle’s diagnostic connector and turn your key on and watch the codes being flashed in your dash panel. Shown here on your left how the FORD OBD1 diagnostic connector is set up.
