Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
Its just a mule which has been fitted with 12C tail lamps. The P1s elegant tail lamps will stay the same from concept to production. In fact most of the body will remain unchanged - expect the vent openings in the hood to be altered slightly and there will be air exit vents on the sides of the front bumper, similar in form to the 12C GT3s.

Yes never take that what appears on a running prototype will be actually what you get at production, quite often whatever is to hand will be used just to make it running or road worthy. They will not commit to getting parts tooled up to early in case they need to alter things in light of actual road testing or endurance testing.

Short teaser. The full article, and some rather stunning photography, is in the November issue of Top Gear that I just picked up today. And carrying on from what Erik said: "and there will be air exit vents on the sides of the front bumper, similar in form to the 12C GT3s.", there is this paragraph in the article:- Stephenson, acknowledging the MP4-12C isn't crazy-dramatic enough for some tastes, sees the P1 as an answer. "It has to be outlandish. But outlandish for a reason, because it's a McLaren." In other words, the added extra drama in this car over the 12C reflects the added degree of drama of its performance. He does concede, with mild embarassment, that one 'styling' feature of this car has no actual purpose. It's a barely noticeable crease below the headlight, leading back to the front wheel. But on the production car it'll be gone, replaced by yet another wind-shaping inlet. It's also interesting to note that TG have reported the P1 to be 298mm longer, 126mm wider and 30mm taller than the F1. And while I can't vouch that TG's info is 100% accurate, McLaren being McLaren it seems doubtful that their media department would have allowed a sanctioned article to be printed and published with inaccuracies about the P1.

Yeah I am around but I tend not to post if I have nothing newsworthy to add to a thread, Such as this http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/ne...laren-p1-spied Usually I just lurk. |

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
Latest spy shots of the P1. http://www.worldcarfans.com/11211295...s/highphotos#0 We can clearly see the new air outlet vent at the rear edge of the front bumper just ahead of the front wheel now.

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
And here we see it with both doors open!!! The insides of the doors look pretty good, just like the exterior pared down to just the basic neccesseties, nothing superfluous or extraneous, because P1 is all about the driving... http://www.autoevolution.com/news-g-...g-1/95846.html More at the link, courtesy of Auto Evolution.

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn - the McLaren P1 Supercar thread
Thanks mate, that's awesome!
I'm a bit... unconvinced by the noise though. It certainly isn't as sonorous as the V12s in the Zonda or F1. Perhaps we need to hear it at 7500+RPM in Race Mode first before we can deliver a verdict?

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn - the McLaren P1 Supercar thread
Two observations. First,it looked TINY compared to what I believe was a Cayenne it was passing. Secondly, they obviously didn't mind being filmed, it almost looks staged.

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn - the McLaren P1 Supercar thread
Why would they mind being filmed? The cover came off at the end of September. McLaren execs told me in Paris we would start to see them testing in daylight hours with far less camo.
