Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
Thanks as well... just replaced mine on a 2006 Sebring Touring sedan.
I highly recommend getting the exact part for your vehicle... I see people had a lot of issues making it fit, mine fit perfectly and so the job took me no more than 10-mins from first deciding to start. Replacement resistor cost $26 at a local parts store and was an exact match. One tip.... remove the bolts FIRST... do not try to get the module unplugged... the plug is "locked" in on my model, and the release for the plug is "behind" the plug when installed. I removed the 2 bolts with a small hex-nut screwdriver (8mm), replaced the resistor and reinstalled. The hex bolts were easy enough (despite the awkward position) to start with my fingers then finish with the driver. Cheers! |

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
Great job describing what to do here......2004 Sebring Convertible... no 1, 2, 3 speed.
Wish I would have read the very last post on not trying to remove the connector before unbolting the resister block - I broke a wire off inside the connector. I fixed it...but was a dumb thing to do. FYI - the part was $48 at my favorite autoparts store - Autozone, but they had none in stock so I checked Advance........ $29 and in stock. |

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
echos many thanks..3 years ago I lost 1,2,3 the dealer said the whole unit needed to be replaced at some un-godly amount so I lived with 4 only for 3 years. Two days ago 4 stopped working (on a cold day I might add)..I found this site and went to advance auto to get the part..31.00 taxes included. I am a 64 year old female that knows where the gas tank is and nothing more. After reading this thread my brain said I could do this, so I gave it a shot. 23 minutes later I have 1 2 3 and 4 blowing fine..The hardest part was not cutting myself to shave the bracket (3 pulls and it slide in fine)..Many thanks for the post..I'm sure I've save 200 or 300 bucks.

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
Does anyone know how to remove the original wire casing from the resistor. That little red tab is extremely bothersome?

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement Question
Hi
Has anyone who replaced their blower motor resistor on a 2001 Sebring LX Covertible found that the resistor blew again? If so, I read that that when a blower motor gets older it draws more energy and causes the resistors to continue to blow until the blower motor is replaced. So before I shell out $30 or more, I would like to know if replacing the resistor for a 2001 Sebring Conv is worth spending for alone, or if I should be pricing out a new blower motor too? Thanks for following and posting 12/11/09 Well replaced the resistor anyway and that fixed the problem just fine. If I have to replace it again anytime soon, I'll replace the blower motor and post back here again. Thanks to the folks who post on this site. Now to figure out why my brake indicator light is coming on when the car makes a turn.....? I'm scouring the boards for a solution. Last edited by Joel's LX; 12-12-2009 at 03:30 AM. Reason: Update |

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
Just wanted to thank everyone for contributing their helpful hints on this repair project. I googled my problem and was excited to read about what seemed like an easy solution. Everything turned out great, but I struggled with disconnecting the wiring haness from the resistor. Key is to lift the red tab up until it stops (about 1/16 inch). I was too afraid to pull hard to separate the two parts but I got it too work after several tries.
Really appreciate the help you guys! Now, any ideas about a rear defroster that doesn't work? |

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
check the connections on the window. my 02 Convertible had a loose connection to fix. Unfortunately I'm not very comfortable soldering on glass so I took it to a mechanic charged my $75 but hey it works again.

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
Just finished replacing my resistor, I had to cut away at part of the housing to get the aftermarket one in but oh well. It took me forever to get the wire harness disconnected from the resistor. The little red tab just didn't want to seem to move at all. I finally got them apart by pressing and pulling on the tabs while pulling the harness away from the resistor.
Very hard to do all that at the same time while crammed under the dash. Other than that it was pretty easy. |

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
I am sooo happy, the fan now works and bonus the speedometer that didn't work now does as well. Thank you to the original composer to this solution, the pictures & directions were so helpful and empowered me to get this done myself.
If anyone has the solution to repairing the seat belt retractor that intermittenly locks up in my 2000 Sebring Convertible Jxi, please email me. Thanks! |

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
I would like to thank everyone on this thread as you all have saved me lots of time and money. I got the blower motor resistor part from Advance Auto Parts: BWD Part # RU1040 for $28. I have to say that contortionists will have an easier time but it sure beats paying the dealer or some other shop lots of money for an easy repair.
I would like to add that the nut holding the sound proofing up is 5/8. |

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
Just repaired my wife's 2005 Sebring Convertable. Part cost $13.52 at a local NAPA store. Literally took less than 20 minutes. Part fit the opening without modification. Thanks for all the posts. Drove with speed 3 and 4 for a year .... dah....

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
2002 Sedan here... fan speeds 1 and 2 are out, 3 & 4 work but noisily! Part cost $45 at O'Reilly -- this decent area chain seems to have taken over another in the area (Checker?). Part is Borg-Warner made, but get this, supposedly comes with a *lifetime warranty*. On an electrical part you usually can't even return??? Have not tried the install yet, will post back when I do. Oh yeah, I think this part also failed *completely* back when the car was maybe 2 years old, and was replaced under warranty.

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
Got her done yesterday. Summarizing steps based on all the great info here. 1) Weep because you bought the expensive part that is harder to install (but has a lifetime warranty!). Used 5/8" socket to remove the soft kick panel. 2) Use 8 mm socket to remove the old resistor block, 2 screws, from passenger side of car with blanket spilling out from floor to ground to save knees & body. 3) Separate old part from connector, slide little tab and pry part & connector apart. 4) Use Dremel tool to enlarge opening because new part is much thicker. Good luck getting light and vision up there (a small mirror helped). 5) Move blanket, and lay across console from driver's side so arms work properly to set the screws & new part. 6) Reassemble and wipe sweat off, enjoy fully working fan. 7) Save box & receipt in case part fails again. Part was made by BWD, cost $48 with tax. Thanks to all again!
