2011 Explorer XLT 2WD all error lights randomly turn on and off

Hi I have a 2011 XLT 2WD that was running fine for a few months and all of a sudden all the error lights randomly come on, stay on for a week or two and then turn off. I barely drive it but it happens at least 2x a month when I do.

When this happens and I check with the forscan scanner, it shows a lot of errors. When the errors disapeear and I check with the forscan again, nothing is storted and all clear. All tests with the forscan also pass without issue.

When the errors do show, everything works fine. It's almost like it's only a christmas show of lights! Any advice or guidance is much appreciated.

Both of the images you provided show brake system issues. Are all the errors that Forscan lists related to the brakes as well? Is there a common denominator in all the codes, such as they all point to a particular wheel speed sensor or something?

It's either going to be a faulty wheel speed sensor/hub or it could be a randomly failing alternator.

Yes to both responses above… It's very likely something electrical; could be a bad connection at the wheel sensors, a loose ground somewhere or even corrosion on the battery cables.

A thorough inspection - that's where I would start on this one.

Thank you everyone really appreciate the replies I will check those systems.

I noticed yesterday that when I tried to turn on traction control, it won't turn back on. Might traction conrtrol this have something to do with it? I'm taking it to the dealer for recall stuff and will have them check as well.

Traction control often uses the same sensors as ABS...so yes those could be suspect.

Hopefully the dealer you're taking to has competent techs...

Since one of the errors is a "Service AdvanceTrac" warning, that would be the traction control system. Typically when a system has an error it will disable the function.

Re: 2011 Explorer XLT 2WD all error lights randomly turn on and off

FYI for anyone else experiencing this.

I got the car back from the dealer today and they said it needed an ABS hydraulic control module and the battery was bad.

I posted this on a different forum and someone said that many others reported a similar issue and the cause was a bad battery.

I will start by replacing the battery to see if that solves the problem before I do anything more costly.

I had a 2011 Taurus SHO, which is the same platform as your Explorer, and the battery failed at about 12k miles on the odometer. There were a lot of strange electrical issues that were solved with a new battery so I think your plan makes a lot of sense and is where I would start too.
