Maintenance Minder/Question

The maintenance minder/oil life monitor on my 2009 Odyssey EX-L had been depreciating in increments of 1% since the day I drove it off the lot. The van had it's first scheduled maintenance at the honda dealer recently, in which the oil was changed and maintenance minder/oil life monitor reset. Initially the oil life monitor stayed on 100% for a long time and then one day, dropped to 90%. After another long while, it dropped to 80% where it currently remains. Is this normal for the oil life monitor to now be depreciating in increments of 10%? Thanks.

Re: Maintenance Minder/Question

the oil life monitor is a calculated number, meaning it takes into account engine starts, run time, engine temp, rpm counts ect. oil wont last as long in the winter because it goes from very cold to very hot alot more. has your driving cycles changed latly? many things effect it.

Re: Maintenance Minder/Question

Driving cycle is the same. Before the vans first service, I watched the oil monitor go from 100% to 99%, 98%, 97% etc... all the way down to 15% in increments of 1, then I took it in for the service as indicated. Now, it's going down in increments of 10... It was reset at the dealer to 100% after service then it went to 90%, then 80% and just turned 70% this morning. The length of time between each 10% decrease is relatively long so it's probably comparable to the 1% or 2% decrease I was seeing every 3 to 4 days before and there's more than likely nothing wrong... It's just odd that it has started to depreciate by 10's versus 1's like it was doing before.

Re: Maintenance Minder/Question

not sure, it could have something to do with the fact that maintenance minder keeps track of other things too. tire rotations, oil changes, air filters, other fluid changes are all coded into the maintenance minder.

For instance A1 is oil change and tire rotate, where as a5 is oil change and coolant change.

anyway I'm sure all is well. I have not heard your symptoms being associated with a problem. probably normal operation.

Re: Maintenance Minder/Question

You're right, I'm sure everything is fine... I'll wait until the next oil change and oil monitor reset and see what it does then. Thanks for your input!
