Vehicle Speed Sensor
My check engine light came up. I checked the ECU, and the code came up to be a problem with my Vehicle Speed Sensor. Can anyone out there help to direct me to where the sensor is so I can replace it without costing me an arm and a leg? I have a 96 GXE. Thank a bunch!!

speed sensor location
The speed sensor is on the rear of the trans near the rack. You can access it from the top. If you lean over the drivers fender you should have ample access (you may have to take the rubber intake duct off). Its held on by one bolt and make sure you REPLACE the o-ring (it should come with a new sensor). ALWAYS coat the new o-ring with the approiate fluid before trying to install or you may pinch the o-ring and have a leak (in this case trans fluid).
Hope this helps.. |

I found the sensor, removed the bolt, and wire harness. I just could not get the sensor out. Anymore suggestions or tricks? If not, I guess it's time for a visit at the service department...

sensor
The sensor should pull out...the o-ring is probably stuck in the trans housing....try twisting and pulling...you could also spray a little penetrating oil (wd-40 or pb blaster) around the sensor. Also try to get the trans case warm by running the engine (it may help). Then just use a little muscle. I know these things can be a pain.

Thanks for the pointers. One more shot. I really hate to have to be gouged by the dealer.
