Anyone else have this problem?
I was supposedly pronouncing it right, but people in Kansas didn't understand, because they call it ta-MY-yah.

"decalcomania?"

Whoa! Never heard "decalcomania" before! :o
Quote:
[Short for decalcomania.]

decal

n 1: a design fixed to some surface or a paper bearing the design to be transferred to the surface [syn: decalcomania] 2: the art of transfering designs from specially prepared paper to a wood or glass or metal surface [syn: decalcomania]
BTW, I've always said Dee - cal.

Japanese stuff is easy for me to pronounce, since you say everything by syllables.

Always said it "dee-cal" or "thing" Who cares how to say it, i'm amazed that we are able to go through 4 pages just ranting on about words, I say everything the more lazy way.

Yeah I'm quite impressed with this thread. I expected everyone to just tell me to shut up and stop asking stupid questions, or the usual "go and do a search for it."

I have always said Tam-ee-ya. I haven't got any strange looks from the hobbyshop owners yet, so I might be right.

One thing I have noticed between American's and Australians accents is the word "here"
After an ad on Cable, it had all actors saying "its all here"...
American's: He-r
Australian's: He-ya

Don't ask my why I typed that...

:finger:

Most Americans don't realize most of the rest of the world/other languages pronounce the letter "i" like the letter "e". Outside the US, you say Tam-eye-uh and you'll sound like a moron!

I had a Japanese roommate in college, he confirmed "Ta-mee-yah" as the correct pronunciation.

the hobby shop I go to does some crazy business with tamiya, they pronounce it tuh-mee-ya. I once asked one of the workers if they can special order fujimi kits, and as soon as I said "fujimi", the guy looked at me as if I said " have you ever ate tommato flavored choclate, it was a wierd look, a veeery wierd look. :grey:
