01 Cherokee serpentine belt squeal
I have an 01 Sport 4X4 I bought in spring of this year. When I bought it, it had 83,000 miles on it. It now has 90k. I live in nothern Michigan. With the onset of cold weather, I am getting a little squeal when I first start it in the morning. Once it is warmed up, there is no longer a squeal. I assume it is the serpentine belt sliding a bit on the first start up of the day.
What is the cause/fix. Is it something to be concerned about? Thanks. |

Re: 01 Cherokee surpentine belt squeal
It could be anything from the belt needing to be replaced, not properly tensioned, to any one of the pulley's bearings starting to go out. I'm not sure if the 01 has a tensioner pulley that automatically adjusts belt tension but I'd first inspect the belt to see the condition of it, if it's cracked or frayed edges then I'd replace it before it get's to cold and you don't want to work on it.
