who's the fastest 1/4?

i just found a website with a bunch of stats. First the 04'sti has 300hp-300tq. and does 0-60 in 4.8 and 1/4 13.36@102.5 1/2 21.27@123.5 top out at 154. the 93' rx7 has 255hp-217tq and does 0-60 in 5.1 and 1/4 13.70@102.2 1/2 20.05@127.8 tops out at 172. so there you go the sti has it untill the 1/2mile. Anywase i was just wondering cause my friend has a 93 rx7 w/15lbs.boost and was at the race track and wanted to race an sti that was there but never got a chance to race or see what it ran. but anyway my friend ran a 13.4

i say the sti all the way to even the 1/2, though the rx7 has a higher top end than the sti the sti would be so far in front at the 1/4 i believe that it would take more than another 1/4 for the rx7 to catch it.
and i always thought the rx7 ran more like 14.1?

well he's got numbers. And I dont know how far in front you are talking. I raced an eclipse gsx, with my gsr hatch, Off the line he got like a full cars lenght in front of me, then I caught up and passed him. It wasnt 1/4mile, it was in the street but it was a lot sooner than 1/4mile

well 13.7 doesnt really sound right for that rx-7, and the mr2 turbo japanese version beats it to 1/4 at 13.8(best motoring source), so it made me think. maybe its the fastest time they got for the 93? maybe the 93 is different lighter version? if not then it deosnt sound right, anyways i usually dont believe stuff like that unless i see it with my own eyes at a drag strip, or if its printed in a well known book or mag. i tend to not go with online stuff, or websites. hope you guys know a lot of stuff online arent always true, more false than books or mags, im not saying all sites are wrong, just that they have more things wrong than other sources.

ok.....this is rediculas....bot the rx7 and the sti are on the top of my list for cars.....but the rx7 would most definatly lose at least till the 1/2 mile...and I am not too sure about that rx7 having a top speed of 172....here are a couple of links to settle my case...

not that its not possible that the rx7 COULD beat the STI in the long run, the only thing that would allow an rx7 to beat the STI is the driver bringing the revs as far up on the tach as possible, every gear, without over driving the motor.....

just to let you know www.car-videos.com doesn't really race the cars, the website calculates it with their own program, so its just an estimate, try gettin the time slips from someone, and also everyone has a different driving style, especially the way they launch, what rpm etc

The RX7's top speed is rated at 155mph. Both the STi and RX7 put up fairly similair performance numbers but (cost being no option) I'd have to go with the STi just for the sound. The RX7's sound so raspy when you really get on it whereas the STi has a nice, deep rumble. I'm in Japan and I was behind a TommyKaira STi on my way home and that thing was shaking my windshield.

Your car should be that fast. Was his Cobra brand new? There's a big difference between the 2003 Cobra and the ones previous. Is your car modified? Maybe he got a better launch. A Cobra is tougher to launch but easier to shift because of the broader torque curve inherent in a V8. Rotaries tend to be very picky about shift points because they have a narrower powerband. Have you been able to look at a dyno for an RX7 TT? You need to see exactly what rpm it makes peak horsepower and torque because the space between those points is your "powerband" and is where you need to be. You upshift at your peak horsepower rpm and the next gear should land somewhere around or at least as high of an rpm as your peak torque rpm.
