Have you been able to look at a dyno for an RX7 TT? You need to see exactly what rpm it makes peak horsepower and torque because the space between those points is your "powerband" and is where you need to be. You upshift at your peak horsepower rpm and the next gear should land somewhere around or at least as high of an rpm as your peak torque rpm.
About the first question. Brand New? I wouldn't know, but it looks like those 02(or probably 03)Mustangs...
A dyno? What is that? No one ever told me when shall I shift...I just did it when the engine sounds like it's ok to do so...("Typical female slow-stick-shifting driver", my friends claimed... ...always smoked by guys that shift fast... )
All I know is that its a 255hp 1.3 Twin turbo 2-rotary...
but I have no idea when will it happen...

Thumbs up Most Potential

Most Street Rx7s that are running good times are around 700whp, Best "streetable" Wrx ive seen was only 450s hp...Ive run against an Sti with 340s at the wheels in the 1/4th and won...but im modded to about 460whp..You dont see many Sti where im from..only about 8 or 9 and most dont race... either way id say for street driven use Rx7 has more potential...gettin an sti over 400hp costs alot more and would break more running it hard.

Wow thats just awesome, chosing one car over another for the way it sounds
I have a friend that is an rx-7 freak and he told me that rx-7s do have an insane top speed but limited by engine power where as most cars are limited by gear ratios or engine rpm, if you have enough power on an rx7 I believe that 170something is attainable.

Re:rx-7 top speed

Rx-7 only has five gears
most cars with high top speeds have six

Re: who's the fastest 1/4?

18 wheelers have like 12 gears does that mean they go faster?
Ever heard of final drive ratio?

Arrow re: steffear

18 wheelers are geared to produce the most lower end torque to pull heavy loads. If you geared them right they can be fast, but thats not what we make them for.

sure an rx7 could have a higher top speed if the gears were set farther apart or the final drive ratio were changed, but it would take it days to reach top speed, a problem which can be solved with an extra gear.

Re: who's the fastest 1/4?

No the RX-7 has a top speed just as fast as a camaro ss with its 5 gears in stock form.
The main reason most v8's have 6 speed is for gas economy and to use a specific power range in the rpm range.

Re: who's the fastest 1/4?

as a guess i would say the rx-7 b/c even though the STi has awd, the 2 turbos and powerful rotory engine would hall balls

Re: re: whos the fastest 1/4

The rx-7 is 1000 lbs lighter has a better drag coefficient and an engine that revs higher.

and if six speed trannys are only good for fuel economy in v8s then why do cars like the s2000 and sti which are v4s come with six speeds?

s2000 are I-4 (inline four) and sti are H-4 (flat four) and they are six speed like I said "to use a specific power range in the rpm range."
