99 Jeep Grand Cherokee battery change issue.

I changed the battery in my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee this evening. The battery went dead earlier in the week. The old battery would still slowly crank the engine but not fast enough to start it. The new battery cranks it well enough but it will not hit. I can hear the fuel pump pressurize when turning the key on.

The vehicle had no trouble starting before this issue. All lights, stereo, gauges and warning lights work and it turns over fine.

Is there a security system that has disabled the engine start or something? I'm at a loss. It won't even miss or kerchunk. The starter just engages. I have a feeling I'm overlooking something simple. Any ideas?

Check all your connections/connectors under the hood. Do you recall disconnecting anything to get the job done?

I also understand that you may need to unplug the computer for a couple minutes, then replug. Before you do that though, are you getting any codes?

Thumbs up Re: 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee battery change issue.

Unplugging the computer did the trick. It started rough at first but soon lined out and actually is idling more smoothly than it ever did! Thanks for the tip.
