93 Suburban

Okay, I have two questions for the experts.
1) I am thinking of putting in about 8 high quality coax speakers in for good sound distribution. I am finding it hard to locate good mounting positions in the Suburban. It has rear air so the pillars have duct work in them. Obviously by the choice of coax speakers, I am looking for a less complicated road. I don't want to loose any functionality or cargo space(I sold my truck and bought this) for occasional loads. I have my subs set up to be removable if needed. I think I will try to figure a way to attach my amp to the roof(still working on that idea). So, I have a general thought on some of these, but the coax setup is still confusing. I am hoping you guys have some ideas.

2) I am wanting to by a Memphis amp. I can by one local for $547. I can buy one on internet from a store for $347. Memphis says not to buy on internet ever. The internet store has a BBBseal on it and they warranty for the same time as Memphis. It's just an in house warranty. They says they are new not refurbished or b-stock. So, does anyone have any thoughts on this issue?

Re: 93 Suburban

Don't run 8 coakial speakers that will be shitty..... get a good component set for the front and ONE pair of 6.5" coaxils for the rear doors. Memphis amps are too expensive IMO what are you planning to do as far as subs go?

follow up

I am not sure why you think eight would sound bad. Maybe you could elaborate. I want good balance inside and only four speakers will allow for alot of distance between sound sources. People in the vehicle will have a terrible sound experience if I set the controls just for my liking. The third seat would hear nothing but the back end and it would be real loud always. Also, components are that much more to install, at least any way I can see it being done in my vehicle.

As far as the subs, I need 600 RMS@2ohms. I looked at most of what is recommended here and Memphis seemed to fit my needs best(price/quality/power).

Re: 93 Suburban

Because your imaging will be horrible with 8 speakers.....the sound will come from all over the place not the front (hence the name front stage) like it should. Have you already got that memphis amp? memphis is a little pricey IMO.

Re: 93 Suburban

What I would do is build a nice set of pods for each of the doors. Obviously I'd set it up to run componet speakers instead of coaxals. Then, get a nice amp(s) to run them. You could either just do 2 sets or maybe even 3 but the pair all the way in the back maybe hard to tune since they will be so far back. Plus, if you have anything in the back, it will hamper their ability to work.

The Memphis amp you are talking about is the Belle? They make very nice amps and should work well with most set ups.

As far as mounting amps the the roof, I don't recomend it. It can make them difficult to cool correctly. If space is premium, try making a false floor in the back or something.

The amp I was asking about is just for the subs. I haven't really picked out an amp for the other because I havem't decided how to make it work yet. By the way it was one of their mono reference series. I really was asking if buying over internet was a good idea based on the facts I gave.

Also, I am not exactly sure how to build pods. I suppose that maybe where the discuusion needs to go. I have never attempted that.Could you give more info?

Alos, if I put in 3 pairs, I was not sure how to split and balance the power from just one amp. I am sure there is a component out there to accomplish this, but once again I am not real familiar with this. If I used 4 pairs I thought I could just parrallel two pair on each, but this was just a starting theory point and why I asked the opinion of the knowledgable masses here.

Keep the feedback coming please.

The subs are JL 12w3. I have found the Memphis amp for about $247 online. The rest, I don't know. Depends on how I decide to set it up. I don't have a definate limit, but I am not big into overkill. Like all thing, I feel that improvement per dollar spent curve tapers off at the top end. So it will just depend on what I really decide is worth it to me.

Re: 93 Suburban

You asked for advice from the experts so listen...

Get a good set of components up front. Talk to Don, owner of Island Sound an authorized dealer for CDT audio. His e-mail is islandsound1@yahoo.com or aim: djdilliondon

Tell him ngsm13 sent you.
Ask him for some CDT ef61-cfi/25 components. Put them up front and power them with 200rms x2 (200rms to each side). Then get some decent coaxials for the rear and you're set. You could get some CDT cl-6x coaxials, with controlled sound dispersion, great coaxial fill speakers! That'll be you best bet! peace

Well I will address part of your response now and part later.

I said I have both subs. I realize that that is not a number but it does imply two( which is how many I have). The jl 12w3 are dual voice coil and are wired to have 4 ohms final resistance, which is why I said I was getting a Memphis amp that did 600 RMS@ 2ohms. I realize I didn't speel all that out but it is there between the lines. So, I was not intentionally avoiding these details.
