Re: Brunei Mclarens Revealed!!!!!!

Hello,

amazing information, unbelievable ! Many thanks to Minimagic, his source and Le Man !

So, you say some f1s had been sold, so my question is : how many F1s the sultan owned at the same time ? 9 or less ?
Nobody knows if F1s are together ? Do you think Gordon Murray or David clark know all the story ?

Phil

PS : I love this forum !

Re: Brunei Mclarens Revealed!!!!!!

Of course David Clark knows, he's had several dealing with the Brunei Royal Family. I wouldn't be surprised if Murray didn't know much about the cars. I honestly believe the cars got out. All the cars that were able to be taken out are now out. I'd love to hear that they are in collections but who knows

Smile Re: Brunei Mclarens Revealed!!!!!!

Hello everyone!
Some of you might know me from other forums or my extensive Brunei gallery. I've updated my gallery today with some McLaren pictures. Allthough this is an old thread and the pictures are probably known to you all (since I dug up most of them quite some months ago from this forum and a couple were pointed out to me by Peleton and HurstG), I thought it would be good to mention them in this thread .

btw, for a readup on the special Brunei cars I suggest you take a look at:
http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?vie...04217&bottom=0
and/or
http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=85959

Here is the update:
- Brunei McLaren F1's -

Originally 9 McLaren F1's were bought by Prince Jefri: 1 GTR racing car, 1 GT longtail, 3 LM's and 4 normal F1's. Unfortunately it's really hard/almost impossible to get pictures taken in Brunei, but there are some images of the Brunei McLaren's made during their construction in the UK. So most F1's were photographed in the UK.

MCL F1 BN1954 SA9AB5AC1P1048002
1993, 1st car built, Dorchester Grey.

MCL F1 BN3388 SA9AB5AC3R1048005
1994, 5th car built, Jet Black.

MCL F1 BN73 SA9AB5AC9R1048008
1994, 9th car built, Cobalt Blue.

MCL F1 GTR NONE FIGTR009
Replica of 001R (the Le Mans winning car).
5 pictures in the gallery, example:

MCL F1 BN2008 SA9AB5AC4R1048014
1994, 14th car built, Titanium Yellow.
This car was signed on 12-03-1996 by Michael Schumucher during his visit with then teammate Eddie Irvine to Brunei:
http://www.supercars.net/Pics?viewPi...501&first=true
This is the only known F1 to have left the Royal collection. #014 was in the hands of Gary Schaevitz from New York (after 2002) for some time and then put up for sale at Silicon Valley Auto Group. After having spent some time in their showroom it was auctioned by RM Auctions in 2006 in Monterey for $1,705,000. It still had the identification sticker of the tracking system when it was in the Silicon Valley showroom and during :
http://www.supercars.net/Pics?viewPi...492&first=true
The Schumacher signature and the tracking system sticker are now gone, because #014 was sent to McLaren UK for an extreme makeover by it's current owner in 2007. #014 is now white with black wheels and an HDF-kit: http://www.freezingspeed.com/upload/...rs_others.html
I've got loads of pictures (90-ish) of this one, but there are only 27 pictures in the gallery, example:
http://www.supercars.net/Pics?viewPi...445&first=true

MCL F1 GT BQ7551 SA9AR5BC8T1048054
1996, F1 GT, Black + 10% flake.
There is a rumour that this F1 GT has left Brunei and is now in a private collection in England. The current owner's name is believed to be John Studdelhome or Stuttleholm or something like that. But there is no confirmation for this story.
1 picture in the gallery, example:
http://www.supercars.net/Pics?viewPi...463&first=true

MCL F1 LM KF90 SA9AB5AC9T1048LM1
1996, Black/gray with graphics.
1 picture in the gallery, example:
http://www.supercars.net/Pics?viewPi...rue&first=true

MCL F1 LM BP75 SA9AB5AC4T1048LM4
1996, Black/gray with graphics.

MCL F1 LM BM2208 SA9AB5AC6T1048LM5
1996, Historic (Papaya) Orange.

BTW: One of these McLarens was crashed by a mechanic in Brunei, it was sent back to the UK for a rebuild. Perhaps this was the cobalt blue F1 #008?

Great post - I really appreciate your overall dedication to the cause of documenting/cataloging the Brunei collection.

I don't believe the McLaren that was crashed in Brunei was ever actually repaired. I think I have some bits and pieces of that story that are not in the public domain, I'll have to read back through them later and refresh my memory.

Yes, you're right. The crashed F1 was never rapaired.

Also, some more info on LM5: LM5 was given to Prince Jefri's daughter, princess Hameda, for her 21st birthday. Funny thing was that she couldnt drive and the car was parked outside the front of her house because they thought it looked nice!

BTW: Thanks for the compliment, Eric. And uhm... I guess thank you too, Greg

I shudder to think of the condition that car might be in today if it was left outside in Brunei for any significant length of time. The climate there would have simply ruined it.

There must have been a couple garages at her place and I hope she (or the help ) put that car in that garage, because after a while it starts going into the direction of that 'rotted' Pantera and it doesn't look that 'nice' anymore..

The crashed Mclaren was sent back to the UK where it was broken up for parts and the complete car was sent back to Brunei as spares for the other Mclarens.

To put a different tilt on this story Sebas, apparently this may be part of an 'urban myth'. This surfaced a fair while ago in that the Brunei Royal Family used for example one car, say a Testarossa, for most of the time, then when it became damaged / broken they 'cannibalised' it and 'fed' the parts to the newer / less-worn Testarossa's in their collection.

To me this sounds odd at best, as surely they had (note the past tense ) the money to fix the cars?

Just a different angle to munch on opcorn:
