96 xj 300k low compresion
So my 96 xj 4.0 started riding really rough yesterday and when i checked each cylinder the #2 has 50 psi, the rest are ok. So my question is how long can i run it like that and will that rislone engine restore stuff help I am stuck with the fact that i will need to rebuild the motor sooner rather than later, but was wondering how long it can go before it just stops running

Re: 96 xj 300k low compresion
The longer you run it, the more potential damage it will do. I suggest as soon as you can rebuild it/replace it with a junkyard engine low miles w/ warranty. You could try a quick fix, there is some stuff that is quite expensive, and has some decent reviews.

If it doesn't come up considerably I would pull a valve cover and check for a bent push rod. You need to determine if a valve job will help or you need a rebuilt short block and a valve job. Prices have jumped a lot lately so check prices or maybe a good used engine. It used to be about the same call a couple of machine shops. The shop I used to use went out of business. |
