Water pump shot? Plugged heater core?

Does your heater work?

Are you sure it is running hot? It may just be your temp sensor.

Is it boiling over or just indicating hot? If boiling over, I agree with wafrederick:

....this is a common thing. Park the truck on an incline, front end about a foot higher than the rear, and let it run with the radiator cap off. It will likely let out air that was caught in the system. Keep it full and after awhile the temp should come down.

Of course after doing this, if it still runs hot, check the sensor and/or the gauge.

Hopefully there isn't a blockage somewhere in the system.
