rebuild car radiator thermostat, open cold/close hot
Ok Im doing a project that requires a part like a car radiator thermostat.
But mine work the opposite it needs to be open when cold and closed when hot.. Now with a regular car radiator thermostat can it be rebuilt to open when cold? Do they sell anything on the market like that? I was also looking at Thermostats for CF250cc Water-cooled ATV they are very small like i need. Thank you for any help.. |

Re: rebuild car radiator thermostat, open cold/close hot
You'd probably be better off to use a heater control valve which are available as vacuum controlled and electrically controlled. You could use a pretty simple controller and thermocouple to control an electrically controlled valve. The size could be pretty small since the thermocouple and controller could be remotely located.
There are some "failsafe" thermostats that are designed to fail in the open position if they fail, but I'm not sure you'd have much luck modifying one to close when hot. I suppose if you could fabricate a new way to mount the spring to press the valve open in the "cold" position, then allow the valve to open when the spring contracts hot you could achieve what you want, but unless you don't have power available to you an electrically operated valve seems like the easier and more tailorable solution. -Rod |
