Question How long does it take to get a BMW

I am thinking about buying a BMW when my lease is up but I keep hearing people refering to long waits up to a year . Is this common? How much do the options impact the length of time it takes to get the car? Any info would be much appreciated.

I was told eight weeks from placement of the order. That was for a 2002 330Ci.

If you want a M3 w/SMG or Z8 it might take a little longer.

Also, if you want a specialty color like Imola Red on your 330 then there MIGHT also be a delay for that, but probably not.

I didn't think the 330ci was available in imola red, only the M3. Is it?

You are correct, but you can special order colors for a small fee... $2000.

Yep, especially if you want to order one with the exact option you want. I've heard the waiting list is almost a year in some cases.

There are examples of dealers having models in the showroom that are not spoken for, so you might get lucky and find one just sitting around with most of the options you want.

Geez. I guess they just ask for a nominal deposit so you can order the car, but with that long of a wait it gives people plenty of chances to change their mind. Just think my fiance thinks I'm nuts for trying to figure out what I want a year ahead of time . If I want an M3 (which I think I do) I guess I do have to figure it out pretty soon.

Yeah, M3 takes longer. I have a friend who's been on the list for over a year. He eventually decided got a Porsche 911 instead. I, of course, persuaded him to get the M3 instead.
