wiper problems
The rain was heavy and suddenly my wipers stopped. After a few minutes they started again and they seemed to be back to normal. Except for one detail, they are fully erected and refuse to lay down. Whatever I do the wipers will not rest horizonally, but stops in vertical position. All functions are ok. Maybe someone put Viagra in the fluid? Anyway it's annoying to have a wiper in the middle of my sight. Any tips for solving the problem? Tom

Wiper Problems
I had the same problem, and was told by BMW that I would need to replace the wiper motor, no need. This problem can be fixed by resetting the position of the blades, which requires releasing the mechanism from the wiper motor - you will need to access the motor and loosen the nut that hold connects the mechanism to the wiper motor. This is done accessing the motor in the engine compartment - you will have to remove the air intakes by the windshield, and the black cover by that covers the wipers. The hardest part of this job is removing the wiper blades.
You can take a short cut by just removing the passenger side blades and removing the cover, leaving the driver side alone, and pushing the black cover inward or outward to remove the bolt, this can all be done without removing the mechanism from the engine, but will require using a wrench, which is in your tool kit in the trunk. The entire job will take less than an hour, which is about 4o minutes removing and reinstalling the covers, and air intakes. Very easy and will save you a visit to BMW and $400.00. - Good luck... |
