Re: WIP Aston Martin DBR9 by MFH
I worked on the wheels and rotors last night.
The rotors are nice p/e parts (5 pcs) and the calipers are made of white metal. I will apply a wash before final assembly. The tires were sanded down on my home-made tire grinder but the centre seam is pretty deep and hard to get rid of 100%. The rubber itself is really nice and smooth. The only problem was that they are a VERY tight fit on the rim so I also Dremeled them down a little from the inside and put them on the rim before applying decals in order to avoid damage due to friendly fire The MFH decals are very nicely printed with excellent registering and vibrant colors and they seem to react well with Microsol and Microset solutions. The carrier film is slightly visible in the enlarged photos but to the naked eye it is virtually invisible. None the less, I will hit the tires with some Vallejo flat to even things out. Fortunately I didn’t have any disasters so the extra copies of OZ and Michelin decals they supply can go into my spares box Thanks for looking in!

The rims + brake discs look great! What color did you use for the rims, they look exactly like mine (Alclad II Magnesium)?
And I would like to quote you: "Those photos of yours make it clear that the MFH spokes are actually much thicker than on the original rims |

Excellent work Stevenski!!
Its nice to see these gettin hacked up for the better, theres always a lot of scale issues with resin n white metal kits. As for that Prodrive box emboss im assuming you dont have the stuff to make your own photoetch parts? I have the stuff thats how id do it. but i think the method with the cardstock or even better yet some .010 styrene cut to shape, i just woner if you can get the CF to snug down to it? I was in the same boat as you with the lighting , having a ton of small led's and switches but just kinda waiting for the right moment. i think youve inspired me to actually do it now Cant wait to see this one finished keep it comin!opcorn:

Re: WIP Aston Martin DBR9 by MFH
Nice job replicating it but FYI its upside down but im sure for the visibility of the model and the average knowledge of whos lookin at it , it doesnt matter anyway

If I placed it as it is in the refs, there would be little/no chance of being able to see the feature through the kit window so I put it this way to give it at least a fighting chance of being seen It's a crazy little detail of not very strategic importance but it gave a load of pleasure to do it. I like to try and something "from me" to each build that I haven't seen anywhere before - it makes each model feel more personal for me (especially that I always "steal" so many ideas from other peoples builds ). Of course, I couldn't have done it without my etching guru buddy - thanks Gio!
