Re: Progress: Ford Escort Group A - 1994 1000 Lakes

Absolutely amazing Phil. How am I ever going to remember how to do so many nifty ideas on my models.
2 questions for you;
1; What exactly is and where do you get - GSI Creos Mr Super Metallic Plate Silver
2; If those are not decals on the centre console (the writing)how did you detail it like that and if they are decals who makes them(Laubak?)
Regards
Tony

Thanks Tony, there have been a couple of different threads on GSI Creos Silver Plate, such as this one. I don't know if it is available in Australia, so I bought mine from Rainbow 10. Unlike most other online stores they're still happy to send nasty stuff like paints airmail - bless 'em.
The writing on the dash is part of the kit decal, all I've done is flesh it out in 3D. It originally looked like this:

Only 10 days to go 'til the comp I'd make it for sure if I wasn't fooling around making stuff like opened roof vents, a carbon fibre cradle for the spare wheel, jacking point covers and accurate mudflaps

Made some covers for the jacking points in the front bumper. Kinda hard to see in this pic, look below the OZ Wheels logos. The carbon fibre on the spoiler is visible as well.

Also starting to get the interior together, or parts of it at least. Did a bit more painting on the dash, like the air vents black, can almost see that in the first picture. Some detailing of the fire extinguishers and that red cylinder, whatever it may be. The spare wheel will sit on a carbon fibre cradle that wraps around the rear horizontal member of the roll cage. Just noticed I forgot to paint the front part of said roll cage black

Having a late night tonight, it is three in the morning here right now. Still want to do a bit more before heading for bed…

How do you make the chasis rivets look so realistic? Please post a close up shot of the chasis.

Which part of the chassis SLK? I don't know what you mean. The rivets on the jacking point covers are 0.4mm brass from Galtran.

Here are this morning's labours.
First pic is of the seat mounting rails, made from styrene sheet. I'm showing them now because they will be next to invisible when the car is finished. Will be painted mica blue.
Second pic is of the spare wheel cradle, also made from styrene sheet, will paint it black and then carbon fibre decal it. Again most of it will be hidden on the finished car

It is not perfect Zeljko, in fact the white areas are getting quite dirty as I continually handle them. I'm hoping a rub with some cutting compound will clean things up when I'm done.

Thanks Seb, the cradle is mostly a guess, I think the back half is pretty right but I suspect the sides shouldn't go all the way round to the front. When the wheel is sitting on it it will be hard to see anyway. I've only got one picture of inside the back of a rally Escort and I can only clearly see the back of the cradle and no plumbing to the fuel tank. There must be some fuel lines but they're not visible from the top. So in absence of any details I'll just leave it as is.

I don't think the red cylinder is an extinguisher, I'm not sure what it is. It has a handle and might be some kind of container for spares.

Re: Progress: Ford Escort Group A - 1994 1000 Lakes

Hi, IMO it is a part of fire/extinguisher system (I don't know how it is called in English ), but this black part looks similar too, so maybe I'm wrong .

Great model. And those switches!!..

Thanks cruzz. I'm pretty sure the black cylinder behind the co-driver is the extinguisher, just like the one in your photo. He has another hand extinguisher in front of his seat too. The red cylinder looks to be something else entirely...
