Re: Progress: Ford Escort Group A - 1994 1000 Lakes
Unfortunately the problem is not as simple as that. The decals have conformed nicely to the surface, they are just incredibly thick. They probably need to be so they are strong enough not to pull off or tear when the top carrier film is removed.
When using them in future I'll polish the paint first and place the decals on last, without any of my normal clear coat. Will leave them unprotected but you can't have everything. In comparison the LauBak decals are some of the nicest, thinnest decals I have ever used. |

Re: Progress: Ford Escort Group A - 1994 1000 Lakes
This is looking fantastic. I know you seem to have a lot of gripes with the decals, but if building wasn't so damn frustrating, it wouldn't be so damn fun, now would it? I've noticed that S27 decals are also very, very thick, and the carrier film was rubbery, almost like applying a plastic bag. Someone needs to review different decal makes.
Regardless, your model is stupid awesome. I really love all the detail work you've gone into with the interior and undercarriage parts. The paint is marvelous, and say what you want about the decals, but those look fantastic too. Can't wait to see this sucker done.

Re: Progress: Ford Escort Group A - 1994 1000 Lakes
Stratos is on hold Seweryn, will return to it some time.
Willimo, that is very true, one must try new things to see what works and what doesn't. Sometimes things don't work I consider the S27 decals to be pretty thin, or at least the Cartograf printed ones are. If you think S27 are thick you would be astonished at the Museum Collection decal thickness! Thanks for your comments, this model really won't be that detailed, since I don't have much in the way of references. It is mostly guesswork. |

Museum Collection decals are hard to work with and will crack easily.

Yeah Brian I found out the first part - they are hard to work with.
Guess I have the second part (cracking) to look forward to |

Great work Phil the car is looking gorgeous. Excellent.
I’m also having a decal nightmare (again) with the High-Tech ones since I started to rebuild the Ferrari F310B. |

The wife was away most of last weekend on a course, leaving me to look after the kids - so not real progress yet again. Not long left to Zeljko’s rallycar comp, at this rate I won't make it Anyway despite the fact you guys are probably sick of pics of the bodyshell, here it is fully clear coated and decaled. The black lip of the front spoiler is carbon fibre decal, an extremely fine pattern from F1 Specialties, so fine it can't be seen in these pics.

Completed dash. It's a bit rough, but time is of the essence.
