Re: Looking to buy a car, Volvo 240 GL
For a European car they are probably the least expensive to repair. You might want to check out www.rockauto.com and check out things like starters, etc. Everything tends to last a long time on these cars, but an 88 will probably need some work soon.
Check the engine wiring harness. Make sure the plastic covering is not coming off. They had problems with the wiring on the 80's 700 series, I'm not sure about the 240. Make sure the rack and pinion boots are good because a rebuilt rack is really expensive. Oh, and AC systems are adequate but touchy when the balance of freon is not just right on older Volvos. Fixing AC is really expensive on any car. |

Looking for a used 240
After 16 years and 328K miles, my 1989 240 DL wagon has had it. Engine is still okay, but body is shot. Too much to repair, including normal items (tires, brakes, tires, muffler) to invest any more $ in.
What are the best sites to search for a replcement 240. Or does anyone have one for sale - manual, wagon, and no rust? thanks |

the most expensive? well... the "brain" for the injection engines... that's so expensive that its almost better to get a new engine...

88 Volvo Station wagon for sale in Atlanta
I have a 88 white volvo station wagon with 170,000 miles on it....Car runs well... clean leather interior and exterior.. their is a slight shake on occasions from the steering wheel.. I'm assuming balancing or alignment is needed.. but other then that... it appears to be a work horse.. I am thinking about putting it in the paper this weekend unless I hear from someone before then. I'm actually looking to get a small sports car now. Email me with questions.

I got mine...
I got my 84 245 on ebay for $300 about 40 miles away. I drove it home It needed front rotors and pads came with the upgrade harness (up to 88 I think suffers from the insulation degrading). Also http://www.craigslist.com/about/cities.html seems to be a great place to find local things for sale.

Re: Looking to buy a car, Volvo 240 GL
PS- I forgot to mention. It's the top of the line model and everything works (short of the air con.) power windows, sunroof, leather seats etc... 4 speed manual w/ overdrive. I think I got a deal. Look for one with a manual, the 3 speed autos are dreadfully slow. Troll.
