Thumbs down Factory Manual

I recently purchased a 2000 Montero Sport and thought that I would try to locate a repair manual off eBay. I did purchase the "Mitchell" manual and after several attempts, it is not what you or I could use with relative ease. This manual is in CD form and it is nor really all that user friendly. I'll keep looking and if I find anything that can be used, I will keep you posted.

Haynes Manual

I know that this is an old post, but I too am looking for a manual for my 99 montero sport. I contacted Haynes and this is a quote from them....

"Dear Sir:

All our manuals are based on projected sales and as of this time
this vehicle does not meet our criteria but hopefully in the
future.

Thank you for your interest in Haynes Manuals.

Sincerely,
Carl Armstrong
Technical Research Representative, USA"

Seems funny how we all are having some problems with our vehicles and they (Haynes) can't see that.Hope someone can make a manual for us.

You have to special order them from the dealer which usually runs you about $150.00

Re: Factory service manual??

well you need to search for a haynes manual for a mitsubishi pajero sport.
haynes sell this manual overseas. do a search on ebay or the web for a HAYNES MITSUBISHI PAJERO SPORT REPAIR MANUAL.
the montero sold overseas is called a pajero.
you will probably have to buy it from the uk or austrailia.
hope this helps you find the manual

Re: Factory service manual??

I have both the haynes manual and the Factory manual for my Gen I Monty. I would highly (very highly) recommend the factory manual over the Haynes. In this case, you do get what you pay for and I would readily argue that for my vehicle & my needs the difference between factory and haynes is easily worth the extra cost.

FWIW, I also have an ebay "mitchell" manual for my other car (VW Golf). I don't doubt the mitchell manuals are great for trained mechanics that don't require all the details such as torque requirements, dissassembly order, etc. but for me, the OE VW factory service manual (published by Bentley) was well worth the money.

Lesson learned: I will ALWAYS buy the factory service manual since I want to do maintenance that's beyond the most basic service.

Re: Factory service manual??

Keep watching for the paper ones on ebay if you don't want to spend $150. When I had my 2000, I got a set on ebay for like $80 I think. Sold it on ebay after I traded the 'Sport in, though.

IF you have access to programs like Emule or other P2P programs you can download the manuals if you so desire.

Alternatively, if you need anything for a Mitsu whether local to this continent or overseas, check out our little backwater list of Manuals; you won't be disappointed!

Re: Factory service manual??

Why would you want a Haynes (least helpful), or Chilton's (decent amount of info), when you can have the facrtory manual listed in the links I have above?
