Taurus/Sable Wheel Compatibility
Looking for wheels and snows for my sons '01 Taurus. Found a set of 15" X 6 used steel wheels w/snows from Direct Tire that were on a '98 Sable. The Taurus has 16" alloy wheels. Will the 15" Sable fit the Taurus?

Re: Taurus/Sable Wheel Compatibility
Here is a link for bolt patterns:
http://adaptitusa.com/referencebook.htm Not only do the bolt patterns have to match, but so do the center bore. Then the size of the brakes. As cars get newer they have made the rims larger not just for aesthetics but also to fit a larger diameter brake disk and larger caliper. That would be my big concern with going to a smaller 15" rim as well as tie rod placement. After that I'd look at the total outside diameter of the tire. Just because it is a 15" rim, doesn't mean that the tire can't have a much larger height to it and end up being larger overall than the 16" and start rubbing, either constantly or only when turning. I'd recommend against it even if it did seem to fit ok. If the total outside diameter isn't the same, your speedometer will be off and it might (I don't think so for this car) throw off your speed sensor and affect the performance. |

Re: Taurus/Sable Wheel Compatibility
All 1989-2004 Taurus and Sable wheels are 100% compatible. Yes, you can put 15's on an '01 Taurus. Your '01 has the exact same suspension and brakes as a '98 Sable.
