Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
Need to perform a smoke test to pinpoint any air leaks.
See AF Vacuum leak http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul....php?t=1049506 Caution - Brake cleaner is very dangerous, and harsh on both gaskets and vacuum hoses. Last edited by danielsatur; 01-09-2013 at 08:21 PM. |

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
I am having issues with rough idling. Diagnostic pulled a po 174 code. We changed an o2 sensor, and that took away my light on the dash but it is idling very rough now. It rides smooth, but when I am stopped it is VERY rough. The car feels like its bouncing. I have a 01v6. Can I get some more info on that rubber elbow and how I can figure this out?

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
Hi,
Anyone able to offer some insight on how the crankcase ventilation tube attaches to the valve cover? I can;' tell if it is a screw out type or pull out. I am running a 2000 Lincoln LS V6 and am in the process of changing the elbow and I can't seem to figure out how to disconnect this thing. Thanks in advance. |

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
I looked again at the photos I took when working on my wife's LS and I definitely had that disconnected, but I can't tell from the photos if it was just snapped in or if it was like a 1/4 turn thread or something. I'd suggest trying to rotate it and see if it turns for a bit and then stops. If so, when it gets to the stop, try pulling it straight up and out of the valve cover. If it doesn't seem to get to a stop, then it probably just unsnaps.

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
Thanks Rod. Yeah, it doesn't seem to stop so it probably pulls straight out. I am just a tiny bit worried about forcing it out though as it doesn't seem to want to pull out.
I may heat it up with a hairdryer as someone suggested that if it pushes into a rubber grommet, the rubber may have hardened. |

From what I can tell zooming in on the photo I took, it looks like there is a rubber or plastic o-ring style seal in the hole.

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
cool. It probably is just a pull out then. I'll try my luck in the garage tonight and see what happend. I may just unbolt the valve cover and lift it a tiny bit and see if I can see how it connects.

yup, figured it out. It pops out. There are 4 little clips with lips on the inside that hook in. One broke off each side when I pulled it out. Oh well. Such is life.

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
Hi Rod!....I'm new to this forum and seem to be having the same issue as many others. I've got a 2002 lincoln ls v6 that is giving the P0171 and P0174 codes. Could you please send me the documentation/photos you have on this?

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
So I bought I 2000 lincoln ls v6 with 181k around septembe 15th. When I went to look at it, the owner was having problems starting it. His friend who was a mechanic came and ran diagnostics on the engine and it showed zero fuel level in the tank but the gauge said1/4th.
We figured something was casusing the it to float at a quarter of a tank. Put afew gallons of gas in and it ran fine. I bought the car and went and filled it up and made the two hour trip home. Ran fine although the engine light was on(which he told me the engine light was on previously) after getting home I noticed that the car would start to stall then die when left idling, it also took a second to start every once in awhile. I was giving my mother a ride to pick up her car a week after I bought it and when I dropped her off my car wouldn't start back up, it was at a half a tank. Went and got a gallon of gas and it started fine. Put in 6 more gallons and the tank read full. Looked at the fuel pump later that day and I really had a full tank and the fuel pump started fine also. The next day i gave her another ride and I start at the gas station for some cigs and the car was havin problems starting back up. It would start and then die and then wouldn't start at All and it finally started and was running fine. It was just under a full tank. Right when I got home from buying the car I went to autozone and had some codes pulled, they were p0401 p0171 p0174 I cleaned my egr valve and port and also my mass air flow sensor. I didn't notice any leaks in the vacuum hose leading to the egr valve but there isn't any vacuum pressure into the egr. I didn't have any more problems with it until thanksgiving. I went into town and the car started and drove fine, went to get gas, filled it up. I was about the leave the gas station and the car would start but wouldn't stay on longer then acouple seconds. We tried jumping the car, it acted like it was going to startafew time but be the time we gave up, it was only cranking. Since I bought the car it has always died while idling and misses alil bit while idling. I took the battery to autozone, I got it tested and charged. It's not the battery. Since thanksgiving it will only crank. I've noticed the fuel pump doesn't turn in either. The fuse was blown. Replaced the fuse and the pump still wouldn't turn on. I've trying to figure out how to test if power is getting to the fuel pump and haven't been able too. So was trying to figure out how to find out if my fuel pump was getting power just alil but ago and i Still couldn't. I tried to start my car multiple times. It would just crank and the fuel pump wouldn't turn on. I disconnected the fuel pump and then hooked it back up( I did this Afew days ago too) but this time my car started. Turned it off and it started again. I need some advice on where I should go from here. Trey S. |

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
I've been told about the Pcv valve and even have shorod's writeup. But I dot think this current problem has anything to do with the codes or Pcv valve.

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"
It seems like confirming that fuel pressure is the issue would be a good place to start, followed by confirming that the fuel pumps are getting power. There are two on the LS, the primary and a "jet" pump.
With the miles on your LS, if the pumps have not been replaced already, they are probably overdue. -Rod |
