Repair costs

How much would it cost to:
1. put in a new timing belt
2. change the clutch
3. tune-up

How often does the transmission of a 3000GT go out and what factors account for that? How much would it cost to get it fixed/replaced? Thanks.

Those sound when you have a shop do the work.

You can save money on those if you do them yourself, but all of them are far from easy.

Re: Repair costs

So what usually causes the transmission to go out? Is it something to be expected like replacing the clutch every 50-60 thousand miles, or does the transmission go out just because of bad driving/bad drivers?

The argument goes both ways as to why they go bad. But you shouldnt have to replace it until well after 60k miles.

Yeah $500 for a timing belt sounds a little too high. I got mine done for about 300.. canadian. Clutch for about $450...

And about the tranny's... I've heard that most people have a problem with them in general. I think that was one of the 3k's biggest problems; a weak tranny. Especially the 6spd. Most of the people I talked to said they go faster than free beer. I'm starting to have problems with 3rd gear on my SL. And can you rebuild these transmissions? I always thought that when they go, you just gotta get a new one
