Want to brag on a 2008 equinox

My daughter bought a 2008 equinox new, after 12 years and 248000 miles it developed a serious miss
So she bought a new one last month,

I got the 08 into my shop, and diagnosed a bad valve
Pulled the heads, #3 had a hole burnt thru valve, and the head was cracked at #3 between the valves

My surprise was the shape of the cylinder Walls after 248000 Mile's cylinder Walls showed no noticeable wear were smooth as a new sleeve

So I found a junk yard head off a later model 3400, and sent both heads to machine shop, and had them trued, and valle job done

Got it back together today she runs as good as new

I did find out that the newer head used a 10mm rocker bolt, where the 08 used a 8mm rocker bilt, so back to the junk yard and picked up the rockers I left behind thinking I did not need them since the old ones were fine

So now I am going to see how long I can get the little 3.4 to run

I guess calling it little is a misnomer since the new ones come now with a 1.5

It should last a while. Our 2007 Equinox is gonna roll past 200k miles sometime during the next tank of fuel. We bought it in 2008 with about 26k miles. It's been a great vehicle. The engine is very reliable. The outsourced Aisin 5-speed transmission is also very reliable and does a better job of putting the power to use compared to the four speed 4T45E/4T65E transmissions used with this engine in other applications. I highly recommend changing the transmission fluid if it's never been done. Just a simple drain & replenish will go a longs ways. Use Toyota T-IV fluid from a Toyota dealership and nothing else. It's cheap and the exact fluid needed for this transmission. You'll need about 5 quarts (4.3 qts to be exact) for a drain & replenish.
