Question electronic instrument panel dims ??

I have a 1994 LT Tahoe with the digital instrument panel, 4.3 L v-6 cpi. It didn't have a radio installed or the harness plug. I installed a sony cdx-m630 head unit using the factory wiring. When I turn on the park or headlights the panel dims. I contacted sony and they said to turn off the dimmer on the head unit, but this didn't work. This answer has to be simple because everything else works. please help...

I would first try taking an additional ground wire from the aftermarket unit and running it straight to ground.
if this doesn't help, I would re-route the power from the sony out of the factory wiring(thereby bypassing the original wiring (which probably powers the inst dash)), and take it straight to the hot in the fuse box.
I do have an original schematic for that model, if you want it emailed to you;

hope this helps,
