More food for thought.... i went out and baught a haynes roadmaster rebuild manual...... Got all the wires going to the right place, and etc......... Btu now i have a newfound problem. I smell/hear/see Smoke coming out of the throttle body when i try to start the car. (when it backfires. In a nutshell its liek a backfire coming out of the throttle body......).... Both the exhaust and throttle body will backfire at/around the same time... (give or take 10/100's of a second.).... (keep in mind, new distributer cap, brand new distributer at rebuild. that was less than 50k ago.) Would this make the plugs off by 1 position? off by 7? It really seems like its firing on the intake or exhaust stroke.....(intake, compression, power, exhaust - 4 stroke)........ Would the distributer of possibly jumepd a few teeth somehow?

Re: Distributer

sure you got the wires back on the right plugs? some caps have the plug towers offset from the spark terminals and can make a haynes manual pic look decieving...

Re: Distributer

Yeah im pretty sure the plugs on were they should be. I tried turnging the whoel distrbuter itself to see if i could like... find the happy medium. But i cant do the timing (with the timing light) until it runs............ Bleh. But i hate the haynes manuals...... Its for electrical diagrams, turn to chapter xx page yy. Then on that page it says: refer to chapter zz page aa. (which is the original page i was at). What the heck. I coulda written a book liek that, and made millions!?!??!?!?! Were was i 10 years ago? lmao....
Thanks

Re: Distributer

Take your #1 plug out, and put your finger over the hole where the plug was. Bump the engine over until you feel pressure. Look at the timing mark on the harmonic balancer and continue to bump the motor until it reaches near 0 on your timing tab, then pull the distributor cap off and the rotor button should be pointing toward the #1 plug wire terminal. If it is not, and you can’t turn the distributor enough to align it, you need to lift up on the distributor and turn it until it does line up, and then drop it in. If the distributor will not go all the way down after you drop it in the right place, just bump the motor until it does. Bump the motor around until the rotor lines back up with #1 terminal on the cap, and look at the timing tab and mark on balancer to be sure it is at, (0) +or- 6 deg. should not matter. Tighten the distributor enough to set your timing, and then lock it down. (It helps if you have a "bump start button")

Re: Distributer

Yeah, i actually did that.... And it wound up running..... For about 1 day. It died at an interection today, and state boys were breathing down my throat to get it started. To he wound up pushing me to the side of the road (and i have freaking scuff marks from the rubber... grrrr) and gave me 10 minutes (he kept looking at his watch too, if that didnt even help any)....... So i tried screwing with the distributer, the plugs, different positions, stuff like that, nothing happened. So i started unplugging random things that look important... like the egr, no luck. Random sensors, no luck. At the 9:50 min mark (i kid you not) i pulled a plug on the map sensor. He got out of his car and i got in mine, and he walked up and said are you ready to get towed? and i said hold on. I tried to start it, and BOOM! it ran. I did not know a map sensor could make a car not run.......... So tommorow im going out to get a new map sensor for the roadmaster, and then continuing to put the tank back up in the regal... lmao..
I was 10 seconds away from a ticket for obstruction of traffic, and parking on pavement, and then the tow charge.... that woulda sucked..... Btu the cop looked so dissapointed when it started and he's like, your lucky, you just got out of 2 tickets.... lmao..
That was cooler that hell.
Thanks for the help guys.
Bill
*edit* i spell checked it*

Re: Distributer

Cops are such wonderful people, especially those with an attitude! Too bad he was not able to collect the “tax money for his local government”. I have never heard of a MAP sensor causing a no run situation either. Usually, you will just get a code and it will run in a “limp home mode”.

Re: Distributer

Yeah, thats what i thought......... But i wasnt exactly going to not try to get the car running... I know, isnt it a shame that he couldnt get his tax money and fill his quota (if they still use quotas.....) BUT the weired thing is.... No code for the map sensor.... Baught a new one, and it idles back at 750 rpms, and get 24/27 mpg..... which is better than what it got when the rebuild was just done..... But woot, god love gms!... and i was in a limp home mode when i unplugged the map sensor.... real limp mode... lmao
